



Penn State is celebrating
150 Years of service to the people of The
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855 as the Farmers High School,
Penn State has grown to be one of the Nations
premiere public land-grant research universities.

throughout this booklet recall earlier days in Penn
States history.

President Walker
congratulates Penn States 100,000th
graduate at the June 1967 Commencement.
In 1966-67, 6,008 students received
Penn State degrees, including 712
associate, 4,091 baccalaureate, 947
masters, and 258 doctorate. |
In 2003-04, 17,828 students received Penn State degrees,
including 2,291 associate,
12,372 baccalaureate, 2,297 masters, 580 doctorate, and 288 first professional degrees. |

THON, Penn States Dance
Marathon, is the largest student-run philanthropy in the nation.
In February of 2004, THON donated over $3.5
million for the Four Diamonds Fund at The
Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. THON started in 1973 and began its
partnership with the Four Diamonds Fund in
1977. Since that time, students have raised over $30 million and have helped
thousands of children and families fight
pediatric cancer. Shown in this photo are some of the participants from the
1980 THON.
